Help -good story- launch this September!

Journalism used to feel exciting and radical. Now it’s owned by billionaires, at the mercy of a few evil tech bros, chasing dying ad revenue or plain disappearing.

When I started my career at the Reuters London offices over ten years ago, I believed in speaking truth to power and creating empathy through fearless, independent reporting. I still do. This is why I’m going out on my own and launching good story, an indie newsletter to reclaim journalism, non-fiction and true stories as forces for the revolution. I’m talking about journalism by the people, for the people. Reporting to build the new world – and help the old one die a little faster.

It’s more important than ever for people to understand the media ecosystems they live and breathe in. We are fed so many stories, so much information every day, and we need to understand how these are built, who shapes them and why, because knowledge is power.

I want to help you do that, without fluff or jargon, as a journalist but also as a human. I hope to challenge your preconceived ideas and expand how you think about media justice.

To help you do that, I need you to help me fund this newsletter. This is why I am launching my very first subscriber drive, alongside dozens of other cool independent media creators. My goal is to get 20 new paying subscribers this month. Without your support, this newsletter cannot exist. It’s as simple as that. It’s not enough to be a consumer of media. You must be a stakeholder in it. This is the only way we get out of this mess we’re in.

This means for the first time in my career, I’m working directly for you, the readers. No third parties, no media conglomerates, just a girl, sitting in front of a laptop, asking you to fund her. It feels right, and I’m really excited about it.

With your support, I’ll be able to launch the good story podcast, fund fact-checking for each issue, and publish a French version of the newsletter. I’ll also continue creating the intimate and political essays that some of your fellow subscribers have said were “so thoughtful” “wonderfully nuanced” and “inspired lots of thoughts and questions”. Together, I want to help us imagine what a radically different media landscape could look like. One that connects, one built around care for its sources, its readers, and its makers.

I already know you’re an indie media supporter because you’re here. Now, I’m asking you to help ensure good story continues existing for the long haul. You can support this work for just €85/year or €8/month. Or, if you’re fast enough, you may be able to grab one of the few remaining lifetime memberships for €170! What a steal for basically saving democracy.

Thank you for reading this far. I’m so grateful you’re part of this newsletter and community. And thank you in advance if you do decide to become a paid subscriber. Also, whether you’re a free or paid subscriber, please share this newsletter with your friends, family, lovers, haters, neighbours and colleagues. It really helps!

With care,

Anna
